I love snow. I LOVE it. January thaws always get to me, but one lovely thing about a thaw is the fog. We all went out for a little foggy lantern session on Saturday evening, and it was so magical and fun. The kids were following tracks and leading us through the forest on their own mini adventure, using their imaginations and creating so much childhood wonder and magic.
In terms of booking sessions like this, my booking calendar specifies that I only book sessions an hour before sunset. There are always exceptions to the rule, so if you have an amazing adventure or idea I will certainly consider other times of day. The default timing is an hour before sunset, because that is typically best for natural light, but magic can happen at all times of day! Send me a message if you ever have any questions, or if you wish to discuss a custom session!
If you haven't noticed yet, I have a new look for the New Year. Along with the new look of my website, the slight adjustment to my logo, and business name (...yes, I actually, FINALLY decided to register a real-life business name with the state), I have slightly adjusted the focus of my business.
I am excited to continue to accept the types of sessions I have done in the past, but I also want to really focus on lifestyle and adventure sessions. If we are being honest with each other, lifestyle sessions have kind of been my thing from the beginning. I am not the backdrop, prop, studio, and extreme-photoshop-editor type of photographer. I like my photos real, raw, and fun. I want to capture the NOW, the REAL, the YOU.
So, what exactly do I mean by ADVENTURE? I like to believe adventure is subjective. What may be bold, exciting, new to you, may be an everyday thing for someone else. So with these adventure sessions, am I going to capture extreme, adult adventures? I hope so! More likely, I am going to be doing a lot of little adventures. Small adventures for the little ones. Sometimes that is just a hike in the woods. Sometimes it may be ice skating on a pond, or going canoeing. Little adventures for couples, families, and anyone, really. I think what I aim to get from focusing my sessions is to capture the playfulness, and the fun explorations of all types and all experiences of people. Let's have fun, and let's explore and experience together!
Yesterday I took my little explorers out to a place we had been many times before. I wanted to scope out the lighting this time of year for a potential session later in the month. As I was falling in love with the light, and with the play, and my son's gigantic new snowsuit that makes him look like an Antarctic research scientist, I realized how many photos and personal adventure + lifestyle sessions I had done for my own family. My own little explorers. Why am I not putting these on my website? They are the perfect example of the little mini adventure sessions I am hoping to photograph for clients. So without further ado, here is my own little family's adventure session.
